Robert Ivy Explains Why Architecture Is So Important In The Shaping Of A Healthy America

Robert Ivy has pointed out some very important facts for Americans to consider the next time they go through a fast food drive-in. The first one of these is that 1 out of every 10 Americans have diabetes, and there are millions of Americans who have the disease and don’t even know they do. Also, more than 1 out of every 3 Americans are obese, and more than this number are overweight. To top this off, 17 percent of children in the United States are effected by diabetes, which is three times more than the previous generation.
Robert Ivy has spoken about the fact that the shape of health that many Americans find themselves in is heavily related to not getting enough exercise and not having access to healthy foods. On the other hand, design can play a large part in changing the way that Americans get motivated to get healthier or that they see health, in general. Some of this change might derive from healthcare centers that spur their patients on to get more exercise as a part of their overall recovery. Natural sunlight can also be brought into buildings through design features, which can help people in numerous ways.

Robert Ivy has has commented that one example of this new way of looking at design is the MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio where a community health center has replaced the isolated center that it previously was. The overall design of the MetroHealth center encourages people in its community to partake in healthy activities that are right in the area where it exists. ivy also believes that by remodeling the city’s parks, bike paths, and fitness and recreation areas that people might be motivated to make healthier choices in their daily lives. It is now known that these kinds of design changes and implementations can give people more ways to get healthy, but without more educated architects in the country, there will not be enough qualified people to get the work done that is needed to make it a reality.
Robert Ivy is the Executive Vice President and CEO of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), which is an organization that works to strengthen the profession through advocacy, working with the public, and supporting educational initiatives that help the architectural community, at-large. He has been with the AIA since 2011 and is doing his best to move the organization into the 21st century where it takes a more active and influential role. A lot of his own work has to do with making the public aware of the importance of architecture. With more than 90,000 members, they headquartered in Washington DC. They worked to bring their profession on the top.
