OSI Group, a leading global food supplier of value-added protein products has its headquarters in Aurora, Illinois, in the United States. It is a privately held cooperation which is spread all over the world, with more than 60 facilities in 17 countries.
Purchase of the Chicago Tyson Foods Plant
In June 2016, OSI Group bought the 200,000-square-foot facility of Tyson Foods plant for $7.4 million as documented by the Cook County Recorder of Deeds. Tyson Foods announced it’s closure plan for the Chicago facility and the Jefferson, Wisconsin plant, as early as November 2015. The facility had been preparing chicken dishes for the hospitality industry.
According to Caroline Ahn. the Tyson Foods spokesperson, the company were closing down the two facilities so as to improve its efficiency. She says that most of the employees working in the Chicago facility had already been absorbed by OSI Group while the workload of the plants had been distributed to other facilities within Tyson Foods company.
The facility is close by to the OSI industries, Chicago branch thus very fit to provide the necessary infrastructure for a continued business growth. “We are excited to have this facility as part of the broader OSI manufacturing network.” Stated Kevin Scott, the OSI North America’s, senior executive vice president, in an announcement.
Acquisition of Flagship Europe
In the same year, OSI Group managed to make an acquisition of the United Kingdoms foodservice supplier, Flagship Europe, dealers in poultry products, pies and dressings. “Adding Flagship to our OSI Europe business gives OSI a broader presence in Europe.” said the OSI Group president, David G. McDonald. With the evolving customer needs, the group is aiming to broaden its capabilities and offer the best services to its big customer base.
The chief executive of Flagship Europe said that they are excited of this new opportunity to work with OSI Group and get more exposure to the global market, something that will not only open new opportunities for them but also give them more voice in the marketplace.
Winners of the Globe of Honour Award
OSI Group is also one of the 2016 Globe of Honour Award winners, for excelling in environmental management together with 18 other organizations.
